It was a great honour this year to lay Thirsk and Malton’s cross in Parliament’s Garden of Remembrance, paying tribute to our veterans, current service members and all those who have given their lives for our country. Remembrance is an occasion that unites us beyond politics, allowing us to come together to honour the sacrifices made for our freedom. In addition, I recently completed a charity bike ride to raise funds for veterans' organisations, underscoring our commitment to supporting those who have served with my colleague from across the House, Jonathan Reynolds MP.
On Remembrance Sunday, I attended the Bedale service, we gathered to mark Remembrance Day with a traditional parade and church service where I met Cllr John Howe and others before we processed to St Gregory’s Church. The wreath-laying at the war memorial followed the formal order as outlined in the Ceremonial Handbook. Civic leaders were followed by representatives from the regular forces, territorial and reserve forces and ex-service associations, including members of the Royal British Legion and its Women’s Section.
Remembrance remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the defence of our nation, and I am grateful to everyone who joined us in this annual commemoration. We salute all our brave and dedicated service personnel from Thirsk and Malton, past and present.
